FAQ: Q1. No sound. Daphile seems to recognize audio device and play music to it but there is no sound? A1. In most cases this is related to the "Mixer Controls" settings of the audio device (Settings -> Audio Devices). User might have to enable some controls there in order to unmute the sound. Q2. I have installed Daphile ISO file according to the instructions but Daphile does not start with it. What can I do? A2. You can try Rufus or Universal USB Installer instead of unetbootin. Some users have reported that those two work more reliably. Q3. Problems with new version. How can I revert back to previous version? A3. The old versions are available at http://www.daphile.com/firmware/stable/old/. The full installation of Daphile may be "upgraded" to any specific version at http://daphile/cgi-bin/Devel. Users have to copy the download link of the version as text to input field besides the Install button and press Install to process. Q4. Can I install Daphile on Rasberry Pi? A4. Daphile is not compatible with any ARM devices. Q5. Hardware. Is Daphile compatible with ... DAC, wifi adapter, motherboard or any device? A5. In general I can't answer these questions. I have also decided that I will not collect and maintain any hardware compatibility information. I don't want to take responsibility for possibly providing wrong information for anyone's purchase decisions. Q6. The media server crashes. A6. First you should try to restart with "Reset all Media Server settings" option and also upgrade Daphile to the latest version. If that does not help, I can only recommend to "Reset all settings to the latest firmware defaults" (bottom of the Settings page) or do a fresh new installation on an empty drive. Q7. How should I configure Daphile to the music files from my NAS? A7. I think most ready-made NAS devices should work with CIFS network drive settings. You can find some help in Installation Instructions: https://www.daphile.com/download/DaphileInstallation.pdf Q8. How can I setup a wireless hotspot? A8. First of all Daphile need compatible WiFi adapter. If such is recognized by Daphile, then there should be the settings options at Settings -> Networking, otherwise there aren't any settings for hotspot mode. Some Wifi Realtek adapters seem to establish the hotspot but authentication fails always due to a bug in the kernel driver. Some adapters support concurrent operation both as client and hotspot while other adapters work only in one mode at the time. Q9. Does Daphile support SACD ISO files? A9. No. I recommend to convert them to DSF format for example with "sacd_extract"-tool. The DST decoding should be removed also during the conversion. With "sacd_extract" you should use "--output-dsf" and "--convert-dst" options, and also "--2ch-tracks" because Daphile does not support multichannel audio. However it might be worth saving the original SACD ISO file. Q10. How should I configure the audio settings in order to maximize the audio quality? A10. In short: Use bit-perfect playback and have good enough DAC. Longer version: My own view and experience is that if you have good enough DAC (using asynchronous data transfer from PC, independently powered, galvanic isolation between USB receiver and actual DAC+analog circuitry, etc...) any audio device parameters don't effect on sound quality as long as you use bit perfect playback and keep the parameters sensible so that they don't cause any buffer under-runs (and have also some tolerance for high system load situations). If the DAC does not meet those requirements the chances that computer HW+SW combination effect on sound quality are much higher and the effects may be caused by many unpredictable reasons (HW, SW, parameters, specific combinations of them, etc...). You just have to experiment and try to find the best setup (or buy better DAC ;-). Q11. What is the default password for wireless hotspot? A11. secret1234 Q12. Daphile fails to use NTFS disk partition in read-write mode. A12. The problem is most probably due to the "fast startup" feature of Windows 8 and 10. Please read more for example from here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NTFS-3G in section "Metadata kept in Windows cache, refused to mount". Q13. Can I access Daphile with ssh? A13. Only the beta versions have ssh server and root password enabled. Root password is "zaq" without quotes. Beta versions are available here: http://www.daphile.com/firmware/beta/
